You and your friends eagerly show up for your first day on the job as scientists at Viracorp! Viracorp is a non-profit organization that specializes in biomedical engineering and is world-renowned for creating a cure for cancer. You will have the great privilege of working inside the most advanced research laboratories in the world and will have a chance to see first-hand exactly how miracles are made at Viracorp! Just be careful not to see too much. There are stories of scientists that enter those laboratories and never find their way back out…

My Role: I acted as the design lead and producer on this project. I was in charge of leading a 13-person design team in the creation and ideation of escape room puzzles, universe, and marketing. I was responsible for reserving spaces to run the room, obtaining supplies to build it, and scheduling project goals. I reached out to donors for supplies and managed room scope in order to stay below our budget cap. I also secured large-scale room rental purchases for team building exercises from other local organizations and clubs. In addition I designed the microscope and alarm puzzles alongside the incredibly talented design team!

Lab Breakout is an escape room designed for 2-8 players that takes them through the harrowing tale of containing the possible release of a deadly pathogen during their first day on the job. Players begin by going through their debrief from Viracorp’s resident AI, Megan, before filling out a test to determine their proficiencies as new recruits. The most proficient are given access bracelets that allow them into The Refrigerator, a visually secluded section of the room. Players must then work together to solve a series of riddles and puzzles to create the antidote for the pathogen before they all succumb to its effects after 30 minutes!
